Blogcasting live from a clandestine mobile home in the woods behind the 13th tee of Snobwood Country Club, Greatness Courts Failure (GCF) brings you the best and latest in golf and golf culture commentary. Our unique perspective was forged through years of exposure to public golf, golfers, golf culture, and golf courses. It’s the people, the real people who love the game, that matter the most and with whom we share a bond, a commonality and sense of community. Golf is honest and democratic, not exclusionary and elitist and we support the people, places and ideals that give golf the widest exposure.
“Greatness courts failure,” is a quote from the fictional Roy McAvoy (Kevin Costner), the driving range pro and perennial underachiever, overwhelmed by inner demons, who, with the help of his caddy and best friend Romeo (Cheech Marin), and the smoking hot psychologist Dr. Molly Griswold (Rene Russo), set the lowest round scoring record at the U.S. Open in the Ron Shelton movie, Tin Cup. We give homage to Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy and his love of the game and lifestyle by examining and exposing the pros, amateurs, hackers, and caddies who exemplify our egalitarian ideals of golf.
Along with the people that make golf great, we explore the places and courses that uphold our classless principals and offer open access to all. And where would golf be without golf culture? We love the game and all that goes with it. So, we offer commentary, opinions, suggestions and recommendations on the best music, food, drink, books, movies, and whatever else jibes with our particular style.
Pop open another beer, have another chicken wing, and click around. You may be entertained, only mildly informed, but hopefully you’ll come back, comment and participate. Everyone’s welcome.
